In stock

This tall vintage creative kokeshi doll was made by master Miyashita Hajime (1940-). Her title is 清純 (Seijun) which means “Purity”. She’s wearing a blue kimono with white flower decorations, a red obi on the front which is also shown on the back in black.

*The same design but taller (40cm) was seen before with another title 古都の夢 (Koto no Yume) which means “Dream of the Old Capital” which is a nostalgic reference to Kyoto or Nara (Japan’s old capitals). It is possible that Miyashita san gave two different titles to the same doll due to their different sizes.

Miyashita Hajime is a multiple award winner master who was born in 1940. The current Japanese emperor and empress are fans of him and used to collect his dolls. In 2006 he retired after his kokeshi shop burnt down in a fire.

In very good condition with minor signs of age and use. Unsigned but comes with its wooden sign.
