Shido Shozan Vintage Kokeshi – Late Autumn (31cm/12.2 inches)

This exclusive kokeshi doll was made & signed by the award winning master Shido Shozan (1932-1995). She’s titled 深秋 (Shinshu) which means “Late Autumn”. Made of golden hue zelkova wood she has stunning beautifully carved hair, a lovely calm face and expression and delicately a body with one of Shido Shozan’s signature carving style. The small rounded pin on her back is the way Shozan connected her long hair from another point besides the top of the hair to the body.

Master Shido Shozan was born in Oita prefecture in 1932. He’s known for his delicate and subtle designs which emphasize the wood tone and grain. His dolls often have a simple facial features and his dolls are very popular and sought after among collectors. He has won many awards as well as the most prestigious prime minister award.

In great condition with minor marks of age and use. Comes with the original box and original wooden sign.
